Chapter 2A meat goat breeds.
There are many meat goat breeds in the meat goat industry! Like the Boer, Kikko, Spanish, Toggenburg, Myotonic fainting, Anglo Nubian, Alpine, American Lamancha, Black bengal, Kalahari Red, Beetal, Kinder, Vereta, Jamnapari, Barbari, and many more!
On my farm I have purebred Boers, Alpine crosses, Nubian crosses, Boer crosses, Saanen crosses, and purebred Saanen which are actually dairy goats!
When you are starting your own herd I recomend starting with Nubians ,Alpine, or Kikko’s as Boer’s, and Spanish are a little more expensive.
Alpine’s are more of a dairy breed but for small meat operations they work good!
